Biostratigraphy of the Continental Upper Miocene of Crevillente (Alicante, SE Spain)

The sequence of mammal localities of Crevillente is analyzed biostratigraphically and chronostratigraphically. A detailed biozonation on the basis of rodents is proposed. The localities are attributed to the Turolian or, in marine terms, to the Tortonian and the Messinian. The correlation of the Tortonian/Messinian boundary with the mammal sequence may be carried out with high precision.
